J. Michael (Mike) Murphy concentrates his practice on residential and commercial real estate, title insurance and land title law matters. He has successfully represented builders, commercial developers, real estate borrowers, sellers, purchasers, real estate brokers, lessors and lessees in various real estate transactions, as well as title companies and title agencies in examination of title and title insurance underwriting matters and issues. Mike received his B.A. in 1972 from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis) in 1975. He is a lifelong Memphian.
Heather M. Webb received her B.A. in 2006 from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and her J. D. from the University of Memphis in 2009. She is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, and after law school, worked there in the Juvenile Court System more than ten years before returning to Memphis in 2019 to focus her practice solely on residential and commercial real estate transactions and title insurance matters.

CLOSING OFFICERS:
Karen Taylor, a paralegal in real estate matters, and is one of the two closing officers in our office. She is responsible for working with buyers, sellers, mortgage lenders and real estate agents to coordinate the closings, calculate the settlement statements and prepare the legal documents. She has worked in the title industry and real estate attorney offices in numerous positions prior to becoming a closing officer for our firm. She has been with MDW since May, 1994.
Colleen Hodge is also a paralegal in real estate matters and is a closing officer for our firm. Her responsibilities are also to work with buyers, sellers, mortgage lenders and real estate agents to coordinate the closings, calculate the settlement statements and prepare the legal documents. She was formerly a real estate associate broker prior to becoming a closing officer for our firm. She has been with MDW since January, 2016.
PRE-CLOSING OFFICER:
Stephani Caudle is a pre-closing officer for our firm and is generally our first line of contact with buyers, sellers, mortgage lenders and real estate agents. Her responsibilities are to receive contracts for the sales of real estate and title orders from lenders, initiate the closing file, gather pertinent information for the transaction, order title searches and loan payoffs and schedule the closing date and time. Stephani formerly worked at a local bank branch and was the operations manager for the tellers before joining MDW. She has been with our firm since April, 2021.
TITLE INSURANCE OFFICER:
Bernadette VanWormer has been with MDW since April, 1987. Her responsibilities include auditing the transaction files post-closing for compliance to ensure that all requirements of the closing have been met, issuing owner’s and mortgagee’s title insurance policies, transmitting deeds, mortgages and title insurance policies to buyers and lenders and assisting the closing officers with title insurance matters.
